Its been a while since I last posted on here. In fact, it’s been about a couple of years!
With family life having gladly developed during that time, any opportunity I’ve had to write has been focused more on academic projects - on a chapter for a scholarly compendium (a compendium probably to be entitled In Spirit and in Truth) and on a book that is now shortly forth-coming - hence being rather quiet on the substack front. But I’m glad to be back to the blog, and to be able to announce on return, that the book I’ve been writing in those couple of years is approaching the final stages of publication and will be shortly going to print.
So, ‘coming soon to a bookshop / website near you’:
‘The Spiritual Soul: New Pentecostal Insights on the Human Being’
The book focusses on the following questions:
What is the human soul?
How does it relate to the brain and body?
What does a soul actually do?
How do you know you that you have a soul?
And how are some of these questions illumined by the distinctive spirituality of the Pentecostal-Charismatic movement?
In regard to its style, it’s an academic work - it is written primarily for scholars and students - but as is highlighted in the preface, whilst the academy is the work’s primary audience, for those who are interested in the subject but want to engage with the book in a less technical sense - those who want the overall gist (but with less of the academic intricacies and terminology) - it has been written in a way such that the introduction and conclusion give away as much of the book’s thesis as possible in a generally accessible manner. (And then through reading the opening and last paragraphs of each chapter, readers will be able to get the overall idea of the book - and answers to the questions above - without having to engage in the academic discussion so fully).
There will be a Youtube video to follow which will give a fuller flavour of the book’s content and purpose - keep your eyes peeled on social media for that. And if ‘The Spiritual Soul’ sounds of interest, there’ll be news to follow as to where, in Birmingham, it will be launched - intending for the launch to happen in the early weeks of the summer.
I cannot wait for this book to be released, Matt!
