Who am I?
What am I?!
Why am I?!?
Could you answer these questions yourself?
They’re questions that lie at the core of what it means to be human, and which most of us sense are integral to living the life that we lead. Unsurprisingly, therefore, through history they’re questions that many have pondered, seeking answers that are real and that resonate - making sense of the life that we live.
Who, what, why are we? – with questions of course that surround these – these are questions that are intrinsic to what it is to be human.
In ‘About’ under the home page’s menu, I fill out this context more fully. As a ramp into the blog’s heart and purpose, it gives a feel for its content and telos. But for here and to start the ball rolling, the blog will begin with the ‘what’ – ‘what are you as a human?’ - being the focus for upcoming posts. This might be the easiest question and a helpful place to begin as there are only a handful of answers you can give to a question like this. So (whether its easy or not[!]) that’s where the blog will begin as it seeks to consider the questions of what it is to be human.
So introducing those forth-coming posts, how would you answer that question - ‘What are you as a human?’ And what makes you not just an animal, or indeed, what makes you more than a robot?! (If there was a box on this site you could click to prove decisively that ‘you’re not a robot’, I might say click that box at this point [unfortunately I don’t have such a box] [but then whose to say that a robot - of a highly advanced state or variety - wouldn’t itself be able to do that and go onto click that box too?!] [Or who’s to say I’m not a robot that has auto-generated this site with its content?!]) Intuitively we sense we are different from animals and we sense that we’re more than just robots…but what is unique to a human that is not also true of animals or robots? Or, thought of in differing words, what essentially ‘constitutes’ you - that is, what are you made / comprised of - that is unique to you as a human?
The forth-coming posts will consider.
